It is very true... we can't protect our children 100% of the time. Things like this are most definitely heartbreaking, but they do happen. In hindsight, I know he is saying he should have had the safety on, should have left it at home, should have not gone to visit, should have left the child at home, should have done a dozen things. As parents, we need to think of the worst that can happen and try our best to prevent it. I hate that this happened, but hopefully someone else will think of this and remember to lock their guns away and put the safety on. It's so sad that this little girl is gone! :( Accidents are accidents; no one is to blame. Things could have been done differently, but that's neither here nor there; it won't bring her back... It's easy to say what should have been done after the damage is done. We've got to do our best to have eyes in the back of our heads when it comes to children. Life can change in the blink of an eye. One simple mistake... one second too late... and it's all over. :(

Kat this news breaks my heart. I know as any other parent does we can't 100% protect our children. Yes we try and we do the best that we can. But accidents are accidents and we learn from them, usually it takes something like this for us all to stop and think WOW. You know this could of very well been any one of us ! I feel those both these families involved. But I do have to ask , why was his gun there and why was the safety on. If he was off duty should the gun not been locked up.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families that have lost a child, being one of those parents . The pain never goes away !
